How To Use A Sewing Machine 

 

1. Make Sure The Needle Is Raised

2. Place The Fabric 

 

Place the fabric beneath the needle where you want to make the first line of stitches. Try to lower the presser foot to keep the fabric in its place.

 

3. Press The Foot Pedal Gently 

 

The needle will start to stitch when you press the foot pedal. If you want to speed it up, press it harder. Or else, for a lower speed, go slow. 

 

4. Lock The First Stitch

 

At the beginning or end of a seam, the best thing is to lock the stitches, called backstitching, to keep them from unravelling. To do this, sew a few stitches forward and press the button on the machine to sew in reverse. You can also use that button if your sewing machine has a lock stitch. Double up on the first few stitches before releasing the reverse button and sewing forward again. 

 

5. Guide The Fabric 

 

It is recommended for beginners to stitch a straight line and keep the edge of the fabric lined up with the seam allowance guidelines on the machine. The machine will pull the fabric automatically to stitch it. So you do not need to push it through yourself. 

 

6. Lock The Ending Stitches 

 

Make sure the seam does not unravel, so reverse the last few stitches of the line using the reverse button or lock stitch button. 

 

7. Raise The Needle And Presser Foot Up 

 

After you are done stitching, raise the needle, press your foot up, and get away from the fabric. 

 

8. Slide The Fabric Away 

 

Pull the fabric out of the sewing machine. It will put more thread on it (from the top stool and the bobbin). You can cut it using the scissors if your machine does not have this in-built feature.
